10 Movies You Must Watch During the Holiday Season

I’m not one of those people who starts Christmas mode right after Halloween. I love and really appreciate Thanksgiving. That being said, the second Thanksgiving is over I’m in full Christmas mode. I want to blare Christmas music and string lights all over my house Clark Griswald-style, and of course I want watch Christmas movies all day everyday. Here is my list of my 10 must-watch movies during the Christmas season.

Love Actually

Love Actually is a hybrid rom-com/holiday movie, and an amazing one at that. Not only are there multiple love stories, but they’re all extremely unique and of course tie together perfectly at the end of the movie.

Home Alone (1 & 2)

The Home Alone movies might be on my list for all time favorite movies period. Kevin McCallister had every 90’s kid in America convinced that at the age of 9 we could all boobie-trap our entire house in a matter of a few hours. Although I found out the hard way that this task was much harder than he made it look, this movie is a classic and never gets old.

Elf

Elf is one of those movies that even though I’ve seen it 5394830 times and I always know what’s coming, I still laugh every time. Maybe it’s because Will  Farrell is hilarious, or maybe it’s because this truly is a cute and funny and timeless movie.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

A cult classic. I love all of the National Lampoon’s Vacation movies, but Christmas Vacation is by far my favorite. Hilarious and completely relatable because we’ve all had some kind of Christmas experience similar to the Griswalds.

It’s a Wonderful Life

The first time I watched this was when I was a little girl and I was so mad my parents were making me watch an “old movie” in black and white! Needless to say, by the end of the movie I was a believer, and I’ve watched it every year since then at Christmas time.

Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas

The animated version of this movie is great, but the remake in 2000 starring Jim Carrey is phenomenal. Nothing says ’tis the season more than How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and the message this film carries with it is so incredibly important.

The Holiday

Another movie that’s a rom-com/holiday movie combination. This movie is slightly cheesy, but if there’s anytime that cheesyness can be kicked up a notch and I don’t mind, it’s during the holidays. This is a good date night movie during the Christmas season.

The Santa Clause (1, 2, & 3)

There’s not much more to say about the Santa Clause movies other than their cute, family friendly and completely 100% Christmas to the max. Before Elf came along, these movies were on repeat for me the entire holiday season.

A Charlie Brown Christmas

I will always have Charlie Brown to thank for reminding me “what Christmas is really about”. The Peanuts gang never gets old and Charlie Brown and his crew always make me smile in this film.

When Harry Met Sally…

Ok, so this isn’t completely a holiday movie, BUT it’s one of my favorite movies of all time and the big scene at the end when Harry and Sally finally end up together takes place during New Years, so for that reason this movie makes the list.
