BEST

Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell

rs_634x1024-150920170556-634-lady-gaga-emmy-awards.ls.921015

Gaga has kick up her sophistication levels about 1 million percent in the last year or so and I cannot get enough of it. This one shoulder black gown is basic but sexy and sophisticated. She looks very Marilyn Monroe-esque to me with this look.

Maggie Gyllenhaal in Oscar de la Renta rs_634x1024-150920170428-634.maggie-gyllenhaal-emmy-awards-2015-092015

This is the best Maggie Gyllenhaal has looked on a Red Carpet in a while in my opinion. She’s a teeter-totter for me. Sometimes she shows up in gowns like this looking fun, youthful and put together, and other times she shows up looking like she  got ready in 10 minutes. I love the colors of this dress and I think she looks stunning.

Ellie Kemper in Naeem Khanrs_634x1024-150920163822-634-ellie-kemper-emmy-awards.ls.921015

Love love LOVE! These colors and this pattern are by no means easy to pull off, but man oh man, does she do it! This dress has a lot going on with the lines, the sparkle and the color. Even with all of that I’m not the least bit overwhelmed at all. I love that the peachy tones are more frequent on the top of the dress because I think they do wonders for her skin tone. This is a home run look for me.

January Jones in Ulyana Sergeenkors_634x1024-150920165717-634.January-Jones-Emmys.ms.092015

I love a good pant suit, but I get so sick of seeing the same black or white suits on the carpet. This is my kind of pant suit! I love the sweetheart neckline at the top and I love the draping. I’m not a huge fan of the flower broach, but it’s better than nothing. I also wish the pants would have been hemmed up a little bit, I feel a little robbed that I can’t see what kind of shoes she’s wearing.

Julie Bowen in Georges Chakra rs_634x1024-150920161707-634-julie-bowen-emmy-awards.ls.921015

This off the shoulder look is huge right now and I love how they mixed it up by adding that third strap to the top of this gown. It really gives it just that little bit of difference from this just being a plain black dress. Also, I’m a sucker for a black dress with emerald accessories. She’s definition of elegant in this look.

Jamie Alexander in Armani Prive  rs_634x1024-150920152117-634.jaimie-alexander-2.cm.92015

This is hands down my favorite look of the entire night. Everything about this dress and this look is spot on. The fit and length are perfect. Slicked back hair is usually not my favorite look, but I am loving it the entire package of this look. Head to toe, flawless.

Sarah Hyland in Zac Posen rs_634x1024-150920150421-634.sarah-hyland-2.cm.92015

Another off the shoulder gown, and gosh does she look great. In years past we’ve seen Sarah wear some very fun and youthful looks on the carpet, but this dress screams sophistication to me. The color is great on her olive skin tone and her hair, makeup and jewelry top it off perfectly.

Charissa Thompson

rs_634x1024-150920142317-634.charissa-thompson-emmy-awards-2015-092015

Big dresses with patterns are not easy to pull off and can go really really wrong very easily. Not the case at all here with Charissa Thompson. I love this gown and I love how she wears it. I liked how she stayed away from big earrings, a necklace, or big bracelets. It really lets the dress do the talking without adding accessory bulk.

Kerry Washington in Marc Jacobs rs_634x1024-150920171019-634-kerry-washington-emmy-awards.ls.92015

This dress is absolutely stunning. For me personally I’m not a fan of the mid-calf length, so I really wished it would have gone to the floor. Other than that I have zero complaints. I love the embellishments on the shoulders and the 3/4 sleeve.

Taraji P. Henson in Alexander Wangrs_634x1024-150920153228-634-taraji-p-henson-emmy-awards.ls.921015

Chains, chains, chains; be on the look out for this trend. Claire Danes also showed up on the Emmy’s Red Carpet with the gown including chains, but for me Taraji hits it out of the park with this dress.

WORST

Heidi Klum in Versace

 rs_634x1024-150920150302-634.heidi-klum-emmy-awards-2015-092015

Ewww, just eww. Heidi has looked like an absolute bombshell on the carpet so many times in the past. This honestly, might be one of the worst dresses I’ve ever seen her wear. More so than being disappointed in her for wearing this, I’m equally disappointed in Versace for making this! Versace makes such sexy and elegant gowns and this is frumpy and cheap. Lets for a second in our minds, just remove that extra flappy fabric on her entire right side. Now lets cut the dress length where the flower pattern ends. Now, I see a cute mini that is much MUCH better that what she’s currently wearing.

Taylor Schilling in Stella McCartneyrs_634x1024-150920170053-634.Taylor-Schilling-Emmys.ms.092015

I’m all about the one shoulder trend. In fact, i love the one shoulder trend, but to me this dress is sitting heavier on her right side. Which makes me think that the fit isn’t good, and we all know that nothing annoys me more than a bad fit on a Red Carpet. Also, I know you’re thinking it too, so let just talk about this hem line at the bottom of this dress….

What the hell?!

Ok I’m glad we talked about that.

Honestly, I don’t like this dress, but it might not have made it to the worst dress list if it hand’t been for that awful hem line. Some things are just too hideous to ignore.

Jane Krakowski in Bibhu Mohapatrars_634x1024-150920164725-634.jane-Krakowski-emmy-awards-2015-092015

I really just want to know who thought it was a good idea to add that extra box of fabric in the middle of this dress? Awful, absolutely awful. What else do I hate about this dress…hmm, lets see: the fabric looks like cheap prom dress material, the color is blahhhh and the peplum at the waist looks extremely out of place. I hate it all, basically.

Naomi Grossman rs_634x1024-150920155827-634-naomi-grossman-emmy-awards.ls.921015

Can the see through dress trend just quietly die now? I actually looked at her from head to toe and about half way down her boy was completely distracted by the fact that I can see her bellybutton plain as day. In fact, every time I looked at her the only thing I could really see was her bellybutton. Not cool, not cool at all.

Nazanian Boniadi in Stephane Rolland rs_634x1024-150920153823-634-Nazanin-Boniadi-emmy-awards.ls.921015

This dress is awful. I get it, it’s going with the cut out trend, but the fabric that is just hanging from her left boob??? I’m just confused. I love a long sleeved dress, but even the long sleeve on this dress just looks random and out of place. I hate this dress with the fire of 1,000 suns.

Joanna Newsom in Delpozo rs_634x1024-150920145920-634-joanna-newsom-emmy-awards-.ls.92015

When I look at this dress I don’t know whether laughing or crying is appropriate. Maybe I should laugh so hard that I cry? I honestly don’t think I need to tell you what’s wrong with this dress so I’ll just leave this one be.

Who are you best and worst dressed of the Emmys?

  • I LOVE Maggie Gyllenhaal’s dress! She looked great – love the hair, too. I agree that she is usually a hit or miss when it comes to style.

I really like Allie Kemper’s dress, too. I think the colors make her skin tone look lovely.

January Jones + that jumpsuit = fabulous.

Sarah Hyland can do no wrong. I think I’ve loved all of her dresses over the past year!

Worst dressed – Joanna Newsom! I typically love her style but this was just awkward.

Joanna was definitly my worst of the worst. theres always that token person at every awards show that wears something that is too atrocious to even try to understand. she was that person for me!
